Immediate FOCUS

Without Walls’ initial focus in providing community support services to families has been on providing affordable housing to the Western Addition and Fillmore communities. Although the needs of the underserved communities it serves are many, one of their most basic needs is housing. The organization’s view is that without adequate housing, almost nothing else can be accomplished as far as improving one’s status in life. The exponentially rising rents in the City of San Francisco has made it difficult for many residents to remain in the City. Another unfortunate consequence of the increase in rents has been a correlated increase of the homeless population. The effects of the rent explosion have negatively impacted neighborhoods like the Western Addition and the Fillmore more acutely than almost any other demographic neighborhood. Given these challenges, the WOWCDC leadership concluded that affordable housing was the space where it could make the greatest impact, immediately. The Organization became a charter member the San Francisco Communities Against Displacement collective (“SFCAD”, or the “Collective”), a cumulation of six (6) non-profits serving six (6) distinct communities of color to ensure adequate affordable housing in each of those communities. The SFCAD members have agreed to work together to guarantee affordable housing throughout the City, while not encroaching on the neighborhoods of its fellow members. Members of the Collective have partnered together to bring affordable housing jointly where the need is greatest.

Structure

Without Walls Community Development Corporation (“WOWCDC”, “Without Walls” or the “Organization) is a non-profit public benefit corporation incorporated as a 401(c)3 organization under State of California law. The Organization was formed as of June 15, 2018.  WOWCDC has filed for and received its state and federal tax-exempt status
